Eugene E. Carnefix
Eugene E. "Pops" Carnefix 93 of Frame Road, Elkview, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, July 20, 2016 at the Braley Care Home after a short illness.
Born March 18, 1923 on Dutch Ridge, Gene was the son of the late Lloyd E. and Roena A. Carnefix. He was preceded in death by his wife Ruth C. Carnefix, son Reney L. Carnefix, sisters; Marguerite Wisnewski and Kathleen Price, brothers Roy Carnefix and Denver Carnefix.
Gene was a World War II veteran having served as a technician fifth grade in Battery A 218th Field Artillery 41st Division. He took part in the battles of New Guinea and The South Philippines in the Asiatic-Pacific Theater. During his term of service he earned 3 bronze stars, a bronze arrowhead, a good conduct medal and a victory World War II medal. He was honorably discharged after serving 30 months overseas.
Gene was retired from Union Carbide with 32 years of service, where he was known to all his co-workers as "Dilly Dally". He enjoyed hunting, camping, mowing grass, sitting on his porch and gardening. He was a member of VFW Post 8516 and the NRA.
Surviving are sons; Allen (Jennifer), Steve (Judy), Terry and Kevin, daughter; Tonya (Troy) Conley, brothers; Dayton Carnefix and Brooks Carnefix, sister; Hilda Stanley. Grandchildren; Megan, Derek and Adam Carnefix, Matt Carnefix, Alicia Harper, Chris and Justin Carnefix,Leah and Dustin Carnefix, Ashley Patton and Dustin Carnefix. 20 great grandchildren and 2 on the way.
Special neighbors Jadie, Tyler and Trenton Teel, many nieces, nephews, friends and neighbors.

Service will begin 1:30 pm Sunday, July 24, 2016 at Hafer Funeral Home, with Pastor Tim Harper officiating. Burial will follow at Elk Hills Memorial Park, Big Chimney. Military rites will be conducted by American Legion Post 61, Clendenin.
Visitation will be Saturday, July 23, 2016 beginning at 6 pm to 8 pm.
