Laura Lee Jarrett started her next journey on Saturday June 25, 2016, her 88th birthday. She was ready to go and went peacefully .
She was preceded in death by her birth parents, Lee and Laura Mays who died during childbirth. She was raised by her aunt and uncle, Hattie and Roy Hays. Also going before her was her husband, Roy Jarrett.
She leaves behind her children: daughter, Brenda Jarrett; sons, Walter “Jack” Brinkley, Jr, wife Cheryl, and Sherman “Leroy” Brinkley; step-daughter, Louise Fawcett. Grandchildren: Kelli, Matthew, Jonathan, Diane, Karen, and Jeffery (deceased). Great-Grandchildren: Michael and Amber.
Laura Lee was a graduate of Clendenin High School and spent her early years working at Zat’s and A. W. Cox Department Store in Clendenin. After her husband died, she went back to school, learning computerized accounting. She then worked in the Governor’s Office and the WV State Police, where she retired.
She couldn’t sit around during retirement. She was very active at Blue Creek Advent Christian Church, serving as Choir Director, Sunday School teacher, and the Ladies Charity Circle. She was also involved with the Elk Community Center where she quilted and enjoyed the Friday night jam, playing her harmonicas. She also participated with her Monday night musicians group, playing at various locations.
She loved to travel. She was a member of the Ina Webb Travel Club, and was able to visit most of the United States. In her spare time, she was a member of the Pinch Neighborhood Crime Watch group. She was also a former member of the Silver Haired Legislators.
Visitation will be Thursday, June 30, 2016 from 1-3. Services will be held immediately following at 3:00 pm with Rev. Doug Edens and Rev. Mike Todorovich officiating. Burial will be in the Perry Cemetery, Pinch Ridge. Hafer Funeral Home in Elkview is charge of arrangements.
The family would like to thank the staff at Peninsula Regional Medical Center in Salisbury, MD for allowing her to come home to WV to see her beloved cat “Pinky” and the staff of CAMC General Hospital for their care. Contributions may be made the Hospice Care.
