Gary Benford Copen
Gary Benford Copen, 78, of Charleston, entered into the haven of rest on Wednesday, March 13, 2019, and is awaiting the Lord's return.
He was born in Charleston to his late parents, Carlos and Evelyn Copen. Gary was also preceded in death by his daughter, Molly Copen, and brother, Bill Copen.
Gary was a loving son, husband, father, and grandfather. He was a lifelong member of Elk Valley Advent Christian Church. He also worked as a barber in Big Chimney for 45 years. Gary was a strong Christian man. His family and friends will always remember him by his strong, deep, voice that would lift up the faith, hope, and love that he had for Jesus Christ. It was infectious.
Gary is survived by his loving wife of 47 years, Nancy Lynn Copen; sons, Brad Copen and wife Heather, and Seth Copen; sister-in-laws, Maraella Lee Copen and Cork Edens; grandchild, Parker Copen; step grandchildren, Kenzie, Mason, and Cadyn; nieces, Kathy and Kelley; special family friend, Rick Songer; and several aunts, uncles, and cousins.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Elk Valley Advent Christian Church, PO Box 12283 Charleston, WV 25302.
The Copen family would like to extend a special thank you to Brookdale Charleston Gardens and staff for the love and care you showed to Gary and our family.
A service will be held at 2:00 PM Saturday, March 16, 2019 at Myers Chapel of Hafer Funeral Home with Pastor Roy Boyd officiating. Burial will follow at Elk Hills Memorial Park.
Family will welcome visitors from 12:00pm to 2:00pm at Myers Chapel.
